Reporting Absences

Reporting Absence

If your child is absent from school, for whatever reason, it would be helpful if school is informed as soon as possible either by telephoning, completing the form below, sending a brief verbal or written message to school.

Upon the child's return, a written confirmation of absence must be sent explaining the reason for absence and giving the date. This is a legal requirement and avoids the need for a follow-up visit by an Education Welfare Officer.

Unauthorised absences are always reported to the Education Welfare Officer.

Partial absence e.g. hospital appointments etc.

If you child needs to be absent for part of the school day, it is important that you also send a short written note detailing:

  1. the reason for the partial absence
  2. the time you expect the child to be collected
  3. the name of the person expected to collect the child from school
  4. if you expect the child to return on the same day.

We ask for your understanding and co-operation in these instances to ensure the safety of the children in our care.
